You probably heard about it…
Rooibos is continuously gaining its popularity in the tea industry. If you happen to not know anything about this awesome plant (Aspalathus Linearis), we’ll be happy to share facts about it.
We now know almost everything about our black and green teas. Now let’s meet rooibos, also known as the “red bush tea”. This is an herb native to South Africa which when harvested and dried can be brewed into a reddish-brown herbal infusion. It is known to have a mild sweetness and light vanilla notes with floral hints. Moreover, it is becoming a well-known alternative to traditional caffeinated beverages like tea or coffee.
Is it a healthy beverage?
It’s common knowledge that black and green teas have many health benefits. The question is, is this “red bush tea” as healthy as your usual teas?
Improves Bone Health
Rooibos tea is abundant in calcium, manganese and fluoride minerals. These components are good in maintaining proper bone structure and stronger teeth. Furthermore, it reduces your chances of developing conditions like osteoporosis, arthritis, and chronic joint pain.
Improves Blood Circulation
Rooibos tea has rare nutrients such as quercetin and bioflavonoids. These nutrients obstruct hemorrhaging and assist in good blood circulation.
Maintains Good Heart Health
Its anti-inflammatory factor reduces blood pressure making it a powerful beverage against a variety of heart conditions. Moreover, it promotes an increase in good cholesterol (HDL) and inhibits bad cholesterol (LDL) at the same time.
Keeps Skin Young and Healthy
The red bush tea contains alpha hydroxy acid which can reduce the signs of wrinkles and other premature aging symptoms. Since the it is a natural source, it is safer rather than using acids that are chemically processed.
A rare antioxidant, aspalathin, found in this little herb may aid in balancing blood sugar, improving insulin resistance and glucose absorption by muscles, and boosting insulin secretion from the pancreas.
